Homeless Outreach Program

Since December 2007, the Flatiron Partnership, through a contract with Urban Pathways, has been working to address homelessness in the district.  A two-person team of trained outreach workers offers ongoing assistance, program referrals, and shelter and housing options to those in need of these services. The team works with individuals to understand and address their specific needs; provides transportation to shelter and treatment facilities; and works with the individuals on referrals for a more permanent housing solution.

Urban Pathways, which was formed in 1975, is a non-profit community-based service agency that provides assistance to the homeless by helping to add stability and independence to their lives, enabling them to eventually move off the streets and into permanent housing. Urban Pathways is part of the Manhattan Outreach Consortium, a borough-wide group of agencies working with the City of New York whose mission is to reduce homelessness.

The Flatiron Partnership’s Homeless Outreach Team is on duty 21 hours per week.

East Side Alliance

The Flatiron Partnership is a founding member of the East Side Alliance, a coordinated effort among the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, local community organizations and area methadone clinics, to enhance communication between clinics and surrounding communities and to proactively address illegal activity and the negative impact on quality-of-life conditions.

Throughout the year, East Side Alliance participants, under the direction of the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, meet regularly to discuss the efforts of the Alliance. While the NYPD has continued to be vigilant regarding illegal activities, area methadone clinics have successfully warned or discharged numerous patients who have committed drug crimes or other quality-of-life disturbances within the Alliance catchment area. The regular sharing of information and ongoing assessment of conditions through these efforts has led to a noticeable improvement within the Flatiron district.

Core members of the East Side Alliance include:
